Position Overview

The Senior Analyst, Business Development, Oil, Gas, and Energy Markets is a critical role that combines strategic marketing analysis with business development initiatives within the energy industry. This position requires a strong understanding of global and domestic market dynamics and industry activities, coupled with the ability to identify and pursue new business opportunities. The Senior Analyst will play a key role in shaping marketing decisions, driving revenue growth, and expanding the company’s presence in the overall energy market.

The following outlines the key responsibilities and qualifications required for the senior analyst, marketing, and business development position. This role requires business acumen, industry knowledge, and the ability to look at the energy industry holistically to drive revenue growth and business expansion initiatives within the energy sector. This position is deadline driven and requires a dynamic professional with the ability to pivot quickly to meet reporting requirements.

 

Key Areas of Accountability and Responsibility

Marketing

  • Develop and maintain models to analyze market data, including pricing trends, supply, and demand dynamics, and regulatory changes, to assess market opportunities and risks.
  • Develop in-depth analytical reports to be distributed within the APMC on a weekly basis and as requested by leadership. Reports to comprise, but not limited to, forward market views, such as supply/demand, benchmark pricing, transportation, and storage.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to display results in a manner that resonates with your audience.
  • Consistently Identify market factors that will affect Western Canadian Oil and Gas markets and APMC directly, provide in-depth analysis to varying internal audiences.
  • Provide oversight of the Sturgeon Refinery marketing audit activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Sturgeon Refinery and other internal departments to achieve objectives.
  • Maintain existing process modelling, improve and develop processes to support business objectives.
  • Provide oversight of credit exposure monitoring and reporting in real time. Help develop process efficiencies.

Business Development

  • Take part in the development of business proposals, presentations, and pitches to secure new contracts, projects, or partnerships.
  • Identify and evaluate potential business opportunities, partnerships, and alliances within the energy sector to drive revenue growth.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources to derive actionable insights and inform decision-making processes.
  • Develop new and maintain existing forecasting models and scenario analysis to support strategic planning, resource allocation, and risk management activities.
  • Provide direct analytical support and collaboration with management in areas related to organizational and industry growth initiatives.

Candidate Attributes, Professional Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance or economics and 5+ years of experience in marketing analytics, business development, or strategic planning, preferably within the oil and gas sector.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with strong communication skills and ability to prioritize multiple ongoing tasks.
  • Experience working within the oil and gas industry analyzing upstream and downstream market economics and a deep understanding of global macro economics.
  • Deep understanding of oil and gas market dynamics, including supply chain, pricing mechanisms, transportation, regulatory landscapes and cross commodities.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a dynamic environment dealing with complex issues.

Key attributes required of position:

  • Strong communication, both written and oral, with effective interpersonal skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently or in a team environment.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong attention to detail while having the ability to see the “big picture”.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, compile presentations and procedures documents.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proven ability to prioritize and meet critical deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proven economic, financial modelling and data analytics skills.
